I offer working holidays with your choice of accommodation, all you have to do is book a flight. We work in the mornings in my studio and courtyard and the afternoons and evenings are your own. You have a choice of what you do and when you do it. You have the best of both worlds, creating new work, learning new skills, making new friends, while relaxing and enjoying the beautiful Island of Crete in your own time.
The courses are run over a five day period, Sunday to Thursday inclusive but you may book your accommodation for as long as you like, giving you the flexibility to see more of Crete and enjoy the beauty and inspiration all around you.
Both courses are suitable for enthusiastic beginners and the more experienced artist, with no previous knowledge of Printmaking or Papermaking necessary. Courses are intended to give artists the opportunity to learn new skills and exciting techniques so the knowledge and expertise gained on the course can be used to inform their own art practice on their return home.
Students are encouraged to look at their work from a new perspective and to develop their ideas in a free and expressive way. Numbers are limited to 6 adults for each course to enable me to give individual attention and practical support to each student. The courses are tailored to each student and are hands on, creative, experimental and fun!
Techniques used are not difficult and students will be able to use these techniques at home with the minimum of equipment. I will give demonstrations when needed and discussions are encouraged. There will be books, periodicals and examples of work to inspire and inform and a folder containing a book list, list of suppliers and basic techniques used on the course will be given to each student to take home.
Our day begins at 8-30 and ends at 1-30. On the first day after getting to know each other we will discuss your subject and look at examples of work. Students may bring sketches, photographs etc. to work from or can choose to be inspired by our surroundings. If you have a digital camera I can print off photographs for reference purposes at cost. To begin with we will experiment with techniques before doing your masterpieces.
At the end of each session we will discuss the days work and your program for the next day. On the last day we will all gather for lunch on the terrace, which will be a Greek Meze of local produce, village wine and of course you can savour our own olive oil.
Students can look back on a week of productivity and look forward to returning home and trying out your new ideas and skills.
Please note: we will not be using any dangerous chemicals or acids on these courses.
