Accommodation

We offer three types of accommodation. Prices are per room (not per person) and all accommodation is family run, friendly and helpful.

  1. Hotel Princess Europa. Hotel with 60 rooms and swimming pool in Matala.
  2. Studios Paradise. Self catering studios, 19 in total, right on the beach in Kalamaki.
  3. ‘Elitsa’ (little olives). Bed and breakfast accommodation in Steve and Penny's home in Kamilari.

Hotel Princess Europa

The Europa is a family run hotel in the small village of Matala. It is 400 metres from the village and beach (all on the level). Harris and his family provide double, triple, and 4 bed rooms and a few studios. All rooms have en-suite shower room, balcony, music system, telephone and air conditioning. (€5 extra per day). There is also a large pool with snack bar, volley ball court, 2 indoor bars and satellite T.V. in the entrance lounge. Harris' family also run their restaurant ‘Ta Kimata’ on the beach front. The beach is sandy, in a sheltered bay and is a blue flag beach with a lifeguard.

Matala is small, friendly and informal, famous for its unusual ‘rock caves’ and faces West so you can enjoy beautiful sunsets here. There is a good choice of bars, tavernas and shops and there is a reliable bus service to and from some villages and towns in the area.

The pricing for Europa is based on low, mid and high season. An example is Mid season (11th June - 20th July) a double room with breakfast is £25 per day. Please enquire about other dates and rates when booking.

Studios Paradise

Studios Paradise is run by Michalis and his family and is situated virtually on the beach in the quiet village of Kalamaki. There are 19 studios of single, double and family occupancy. There is also one studio suitable for disabled use on the ground floor. The studios are nicely decorated in blue, green and white and consist of studio bedrooms with small kitchen area with fridge and en-suite shower rooms. The rooms are air conditioned (included in the price), all have balconies and all but two have a sea view. Michalis' café/bar and snack bar is situated immediately in front of the studios where he can provide a continental breakfast from 9-12am daily if required at a cost of €4. Also Michalis provides free sunbeds on the beach directly in front of the studios. There is a choice of bars, tavernas and shops in the village.

Kalamaki beach is a very long and sandy blue flag beach (with lifeguard) stretching from Timpaki to Kommos. There are Minoan ruins at Kommos beach. Please note some of the more secluded areas are used by nudists. If you are here at the time of year when the Caretta turtles are nesting and hatching you may be lucky enough to see them on Kalamaki beach and you will enjoy some stunning sunsets here. There is also a small swimming pool in the village which is shaded and has grass! The entrance fee is currently €3 and includes a soft drink. You can stay all day if you wish, they serve drinks and snacks.

The pricing for Studios Paradise is based on Low season and Mid/high season. An example of Mid/high season starting 6th May until end of September is Double studio room £22 per day. This accommodation also provides single occupancy rooms (£18 per day, mid/high season). Please enquire about other dates and rates when booking.

‘Elitsa’

Steve and Penny offer you bed and breakfast accommodation in their friendly and relaxed home. The double bedroom with en-suite bathroom is comfortably decorated and is on the ground floor. It has a door that opens onto a lovely terrace with lots of plants and flowers and comfortable garden furniture. The terrace is shaded by a tiled roof. Steve will provide you with one of his ‘special’ cooked breakfasts and you can sample Penny's delicious home-made marmalade, while you sit on the terrace looking down over the valley of olive trees.

Their home is in the small but delightful village of Kamilari, approx. 2 kilometres from Kalamaki and the beach. The village has a choice of kafenions, tavernas and boutique shops. Steve and Penny will be pleased to share their knowledge of the area with you and no doubt can suggest some favourite tavernas or sights to see. Please note: As this is a private home Steve and Penny do have cats, so is not advisable for those with an allergy to them.

Double room with breakfast is £25 per day (single or double occupancy).
